Something Wicked this Way Comes
Part of Ron Miller’s push to break free of Walt Disney Productions’ ever-narrowing brand of innocuous family entertainment, this film flopped at the box office and serving as the final straw in his decision to create Touchstone Pictures. Had it been released under the new label it most likely would have had a far better reception and could have greatly helped the (then) struggling studio.
Based on Ray Bradbury’s famous 1962 Novel, which itself evolved from an even earlier short story entitled The Black Ferris, it tells the story of a supernatural carnival where its owner grants its patrons their deepest desires with a Monkey’s Paw price. Featuring Jonathan Pryce (long before his tenure as Governor Swan in Pirates of the Caribbean) and a cameo by Royal Dano most famous for his vocal performance as the star of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, here is Something Wicked This Way Comes…
