Opening in January 1986, The Living Seas was the first of several events during what could be considered the most prolific year in Epcot’s history. In the span of 12 months, EPCOT Center both completed its Phase II expansion and made several significant changes to existing attractions that ushered in its first “Golden Age”.

It has often been said that music accounts for 50% of the theme park experience, but in the case of The Living Seas that percentage was substantially higher. To spite the “6th Largest Ocean” (officially titled) the Caribbean Coral Reef, the Future World pavilion all about water features very little of its subject matter as part of the experience. Therefore, much of its aquatic aesthetic is due in large part to the “Water Music” of its BGM that literally has an undercurrent of bubbling water sounds throughout the entire composition.
