FUTURE WORLD THEME REVISITED
Interview excerpt with composer Russell Brower
by Lauren Staniszewski
Brower used the David Arkenstone piece “Papillon - On the Wings of a Butterfly” as a “flavor” example in order to get approval and to proceed on the project. Once approval was granted, he “stared at a model of the revised FW area at WDI, and the music came to [him].” Greatly inspired by the 1982 medley, he composed and recorded the Innoventions Area Loop in just five days at his home, using different synthesizers […] The full [52-minute] loop Brower composed featured arrangements of all the different pavilion themes from throughout Future World, however the loop we hear today is a [19-minute] shortened version that features mainly the central theme of the loop interspersed with other selections.

STANDING IN MOTION
From the 9/14/82 Newsbrief:
An oval measuring 180 by 120 feet, the fountain is controlled by a computer which sends 29,000 gallons of water […] cascading down tiered walls. Meanwhile individual jets of water shoot 30 feet into the air.
When the second phase of EPCOT Center is completed, 328 individual nozzles will create water sculptures in ever-changing designs. A laser beam will be projected from beneath the fountain, and with the aid of other lasers located around CommuniCore will create a dazzling light show in the sky each night. Explosions of water will even tell what time it is.
Fast-forward 13 years later and this vision of futuristic fountains finally materializes with the forgettable show “Splashtacular”. In its wake, the Fountain of Nations now performs an aqua ballet every 15-minutes throughout the day and into the night set to uplifting film scores, new age music, and short-lived theme park show soundtracks.
3. THE FOUNTAIN VIEW
Beginning its existence as part of the Sunrise Terrace Restaurant, this elevated interior rotunda was descriptively renamed The Fountain View in 1993 featuring décor benefitting its (then) New Age, and Smooth Jazz atmosphere.
7. COLORTOPIA
Exploring the effects, psychology, and technical dynamics of our wonderful world of color. This exhibit features a playlist of contemplative themes from latter-day Disney Films, from Inside Out, Wall-e, TOMORROWLAND to name a few.
9. THINK (PRESENTED BY IBM)
This exhibit engages visitors in a conversation about how we can improve the way we live and work, including a very EPCOT Centered multi-screen presentation that examines a distinct approach to making the world work better.
13. CLUB COOL
Thankfully replacing Ice Station Cool in 2005, this exhibit sampling international Coke products is musically the most edgy environment in Epcot with its continuous rotation of today’s Techno hits.
