Prologue to The Living Seas

After winding through a queue featuring artifacts of underwater oceanographic exploration, guests would gather in a dimly lit rotunda where overhead mesmerizing water reflections would encircle the room. While waiting, this brief preshow into the history of undersea exploration and pavilion sponsor United Technologies' role in its future, served as a prologue to their journey into The Living Seas which began soon after its conclusion with the austerely beautiful film "THE SEA".

Music by: RICHARD BELLIS Arrangement of The Living Seas theme by George Wilkins & Russell Brower

Production Notes:
This prologue was ingeniously created using over 40 slides (painted by Living Seas Art Director, Tim Delaney himself) many of which featured a practical transition effect that gave the artwork the appearance of them materializing in the ocean waves.
In order to faithfully recreate this experience, the artwork was cleaned, upscaled and then thoroughly cleaned again with subtle vignetting applied to recreate the unique properties of the original presentation which was then reproduced in After Effects using historical footage of the original (for reference) complete with a "Water Caustics" effect which was painstakingly produced to mirror the original as closely as possible.
